My coworker uses one and a lazer jammer and swears by them. Expensive yes but better than losing your car.

We used to own one. It saved us numerous times on road trips where we didn't know the favorite hiding spots of the local law enforcement. Ours was a V1, like pictured, and it worked like a dream. Unfortunately, our car got broken into a few years ago, and the V1 was one of the few things they stole.

i could have used one a few weeks ago when i got the dreaded " going fast " tax. i'm going to be watching this thread for radar detector recommendations.
Question
: what's the legal status these days on radar detectors?
(i'm in California)

I use my Passport daily. It's saved me numerous times from speed traps and shit like that. It's great on road trips cause you can fly to your destination. Get one.

My dad has one in his truck, saved him multiple times (big blue truck + speeding = officers ticketing dream)
I don't know what brand it is, but he had a V1 in his old Silverado before the people who stole the truck stole that too.

I would have a V1, but here in VA they are illegal. And the cops have magic that tells them when you're using these or laser jammers. Huge tickets if they catch you. :(

I have a V1 in the Clown Shoe. It's saved me enough times to have paid for itself.

I've been using a passport for about 8 years (still works). i don't really drive like a madman anymore but it definitely saved my ass more than once. I once passed a CHP officer in the rain at double the speed limit(QUATTRO!). He didnt have radar on, but needless to say i got pulled over. He saw the passport on my dash and let me go (he probably didnt know how fast i was going... he was just pissed that he had to get out of his car in the rain).
I now have it mounted up by the rear-view mirror, tapped into the car's fuse box. Yes, they work. but it is only a tool. you still have to be smart and know that not all cops use radar or keep radar on all the time.

I have a V1 that's around 20 years old, running it's original firmware. I has saved me numerous times and also alerted me that I've been busted. That's the nature of using a radar detector - if it goes off you may already be busted. But any warning it gives you that keeps you from getting a ticket makes it worth owning.
I don't use it in my daily driver/work vehicle Odyssey; it lives in my play car.

I live in MA, an troopers in MA are great at keeping that shit off until they want to turn it on. makes detectors almost useless.

Had a V1 since I graduated high school in 08. Probably paid itself off in the first year with all the trips I would make between Baton Rouge and Houston. It is still running strong. Only time I got a ticket is when I got lasered, but there was nothing I could've done about that except for a laser jammer, which is illegal in Texas.
